Yesterday we walked for what seemed like forever to see the Plaza de Espana. We took the route along the Guadalquivir (the river) which I think turned out to be the long way. It was HOT! Addy had to strip down to her tank top, put on her snazzy shades that Pepe gave her, and she declared that she needs to start wearing deoderant (which she put on first thing this morning). To help keep us going, we decided we would buy some helado (ice cream) at the first place we could find. Alex and Addy started running when we saw the ice cream stand at Maria Luisa park, the grounds around the plaza.
After the ice cream, we rented a fred flintstone bike bus and toured around the beautiful gardens and the University grounds nearby. It was good training...watch out for the Little Red Riding Hood ride, ladies.
The Plaza de Espana was built for the 1929 World's Fair that was held here, but my kids think it is much more exciting that it is where scenes from the Star Wars Attack of the Clones was filmed. It is the palace of Naboo. There is a little river in front of the Plaza where you can rent boats to row around like in Venice, unfortunately they closed right as we went to rent them. We decided to go back when Matt comes so he can row us around.
We finished up our evening with a trip to McDonald's/Burger King. They are right next to each other and Connor prefers Burger King. Here are a few pictures I snapped of the Cathedral on our way to McDonald's. It was a beautiful night and I am sure everyone along the way enjoyed Addy yelling the whole way to the restaurant, "WHERE IS MCDONALD'S??!!"
