Courage

We are trying to memorize one inspiring quote a week. This week the quote comes from William Shakespeare...

"Our doubts are traitors, and make us lose the good we oft might win, by fearing to attempt."

So with those inspirational words to be courageous and try new things, we decided to try to eat some fresh seafood since we were on a little mini vacation to the coast. We explained to the waiter in our very limited Spanish that we don't really like seafood, but we were willing to have un nuevo experiencia. We made it clear we wanted a small plate, that a tapa (appetizer) would be good. We told him he could decide for us. He suggested a media racione de pescado frito, which is a half portion of fried fish. First the pork chops and chicken came out. Then the seafood. There were about 8 6" anchovies with their eyes still in the sockets and fins intact that were battered and fried, purple calamari, a few other bits, and a fillet of fish (which I heard one of my kids, I think it was Cassidy, explain to the others that it was a baby turtle). Addy immediately started gagging. I told her to run out of the restaurant to barf, so she stood in the doorway gagging. Luckily I was able to usher her to the side of the lane to do her business. When we returned to the table they had put a napkin over the plate "so Addy won't get sick again". Cassidy had to move the plate to my side of the table in order to finish her pork chop. Unfortunately, after the barfing, and staring at our meal in the eyes, we all decided that we were not as courageous as we had hoped. We offered the plate to some Irish people on the table behind us (whom we had kind of befriended) and even she said that she wanted us to keep the napkin over the dish. So much for being courageous!
