Italica....finally

We finally made it to Italica, the site of the Roman ruins just a half an hour bus ride out of town. We went in the afternoon and it seems that my kids have gotten into the idea of the Spanish siesta. After we took our relaxing 30 minute bus ride, everyone was tired. I had to rouse the troops and remind them how amazing it is to see an actual Roman town...they weren't totally convinced but went along with me anyway.

A heart shaped tree stump we thought we would take a picture of with our feet on it...

There were lots of beautiful mosaics that served as the decorative floors in the homes.

This mosaic has pictures of the Gods that the days of the week were named after. AMAZING!

The next couple of pictures show what the gardens would have been like in the courtyards and surrounding the homes. It makes it look so beautiful. There were also pictures of replicas of what the homes would have looked like which was neat to see and made it look more "real".

The highlights, as far as the kids were concerned, were the snail shells they found and the purple olive trees we came across. The olives were great to chuck at each other and when you pinched them there was lots of dark purple juice that stains your hands and everything else. I wish I would have taken a picture of Alex's hands, face and shirt. He went over to a little fountain to wash off and completely soaked himself. The nearby security guard was quite amused, but kept a close eye on Alex afterwards.

The timer photo...a little crooked.

The large amphitheater, kind of like the colusseum (spelling?) only smaller.

We grabbed a drink, the kids played with Alex's large bouncy ball and we waited a while for the bus. Addy fell asleep on the bus ride home and by the time we got back to Sevilla we were all tired.
